WHO WE ARE

Driven by Passion. Defined by Precision.

Shifting Gears was built from a lifelong love of classic cars — the kind that make your heart skip a beat and your hands tighten on the wheel.

What Drives Us

  • Outline of a clipboard with a checkmark, gear, and shield icons, representing safety and settings.

    Quality Over Quantity

We don’t move metal…we curate machines. Each vehicle is chosen for its story, craftsmanship, and condition, not for how fast it’ll sell.

  • Outline icon of a car, gear, and sun symbol behind the car

    Integrity in Every Detail

From the first handshake to the final delivery, transparency is the backbone of what we do. No surprises, no shortcuts — just honest work and clear communication.

  • Icon of three people with a heart above them

    Family in the Fast Lane

Shifting Gears is more than a business, it’s a family shop. Kyle’s boys are growing up around the smell of motor oil and fresh polish, learning what it means to build something that lasts.

About Me.

Thank you for making a pit stop to learn a little about Shifting Gears! I’m Kyle Rothschild, and my story with cars began long before I could reach the pedals.

I grew up in garages, some heated, most not, thumbing through Popular Mechanics, Road & Track, and anything else with a picture of an engine. While other kids memorized baseball stats, I was memorizing gear ratios. I learned to drive stick before I even had a learner’s permit, and soon after found myself helping my stepfather revive a tired ’70 Chevelle convertible. That project eventually became a full Pro-Touring build, and somewhere along the way, the rumble of a bored-and-stroked small-block became the soundtrack of my childhood.

I went on to build custom and Pro-Touring cars in my uncle’s shop and gained experience in specialty workshops, including Land Rover. Reverse-engineering parts, solving build puzzles, and researching the intricate details of each project have always been the most enjoyable part for me. Over time, I realized I love not only building and driving cars but also uncovering the unique mechanical stories that make each one special.

By sixteen, I was selling cars on consignment, hauling myself to car shows, photographing builds, and digging into the histories and specs of vehicles worth over $100,000. I quickly realized that every car has its own story, and sharing these stories enables the next owner to keep writing theirs.

Life’s too short to drive something boring, which is why I daily drive a ’71 Suburban and race one of the quirkiest cars you’ll ever see in a 24 Hours of Lemons event. Now, generational, this passion is shared by my two boys, who are eager to pick up a wrench and ecstatic to drive down our street, sitting on my lap.

Cars reflect our personality and are part of how we tell our life stories. Whether you're growing your collection or looking for something new, I’m here to help you discover or create a car with a story worth sharing and guide you in shifting gears into your next exciting ride.

An orange vintage car with a black roof and a 'Ride & Drive' sign on its door, parked in a lot with other vehicles. Two children, one sitting and one standing with an arm around the other, watch the car. Several people are seen in the background, some wearing masks, near a service area with a sign that says 'Hagerty'.
